Green Building Standards
For several years, company owner Tim Dunkum has been researching and learning about multiple green building products and techniques and how they apply to residential construction. He has attended many lectures and seminars by leaders in the expanding field of green construction. As a company, we have used many of the products and techniques that he has learned about so the things we are proposing as standard are not “new and trendy” but tried and trusted technologies.
Traditionally, remodeling creates a large amount of debris, uses lots of electricity and water and introduces harmful chemicals into the customer’s home from the use of high VOC products. It is a passion of this company to create beautiful projects while maintaining a safe, energy efficient space and minimizing our impact on the environment. We will also make it a point to educate the customer about all of the green building options for their particular project. It will be up to each customer how far past the minimum standard they want to “Go Green”.
Minimum Green Building Standards:
- Deconstruction of existing space to allow for re-use or recycling of materials
- Use blown-in cellulose insulation in wall cavities, fiberglass in ceiling and floors. Preferred method is spray on foam everywhere.
- Low voc caulks and adhesives
- Low voc finishes for all wood products- stain, polyurethane, primers and paints
- Low voc finishes for all wall and ceiling surfaces
- Use low-flow toilets and shower heads; faucet aerators
- Sealing of heating and cooling ductwork
- Sealing around electrical outlets and plumbing lines to eliminate air leaks
- Install dimmer switches when applicable
- Install flourescent lighting where applicable
